Laura makes her art collaborative, flexible and unique, and made me feel motivated, capable, and beautiful in ways that I never thought were possible for me.

I photograph not only because I love looking at the world, putting it into a frame, playing with light and creating art. I photograph for the connection I make with my subject(s), giving them room to be seen as they are. I photograph to witness and encourage connection between families, friends, kids and loves. I photograph to encourage gratitude, making artwork out of seemingly mundane moments. I photograph for the parents who will look back on their photos in 20 years and say “can you believe his toes were really that small?” I photograph to help entrepreneurs, artists, online daters and corporates alike express who they are through images so that they can grow their business, their work, their network, and their lives. Also – it’s quite a lot of fun behind the lens.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my work. I hope to create with you soon.

I first picked up a real camera when I arrived in NYC over a decade ago (gasp, how did that happen!?). I brought my camera with me everywhere - I loved looking at seemingly mundane things and noticing how they were beautiful. I photographed in city streets, abroad, and in the woods for years before I started photographing people.

My experience as a model has helped to hone by abilities both in front of and behind the lens and gave me the opportunity to observe and learn from a range of portrait, fashion and lifestyle photographers. I've studied photography at NYU and various institutions throughout the city, but have found the most genuine learning comes when engaged in the art of practice. I'm a "Jill of many trades" on a constant quest of full embodiment; I think being a well-rounded human is key to being a fully realized creative, and my multifaceted professional experience constantly contributes to my growth as a photographer.

my story:

Connection, gratitude, and expression.

my WHY:

I'm passionate about creating images that capture authenticity. My style is candid, light, sweet, balanced, fresh and realistic.

teaching

I have always been a dancer. I trained like a crazy person throughout my youth and upon arriving in NYC I pursued a professional career, doing mostly musical theatre and commercial work.

I continue to dance regularly and am currently a Teaching Artist for various different (awesome) organizations, teaching dance & creative movement to kids from pre-K through 5th grade, "neurotypical" and on the spectrum. My first foray into teaching dance was in the dirt in Vietnam (pictured). It is deeply meaningful & important (and  sometimes challenging) work for me.

My work with children has  greatly complimented my work as a photographer. I will be 100% comfortable with your children, regardless of what state they are in. Dance parties always welcome.

fitness

In addition to my teaching artistry, I'm a Pilates profesh. I have nurtured a dedicated Pilates practice by becoming a fully certified teacher - I teach Classical Pilates in NYC and the Hamptons.

Teaching Pilates requires a sharp eye, quick and effective communication, a willingness to ALWAYS keep learning, and patience. It turns out all of these things go hand in hand with photography (not to mention taking care of my body allows me to be a better photographer - you'll see when we shoot together, I'm all over the place!)

My experience teaching adults has helped my directing skills - and patience - as a photographer.

city girl

I'm happiest in the woods. I've lived in NYC for ten years now and though I often thrive off of it's immense energy and neverending vibrance, I never feel more connected than when I'm amongst trees.

NYC has helped me learn photographic technique - composition, controlling and manipulating light, posing, framing, all that jazz - but the natural world helps me to be quiet and still enough to really see.

I love traveling and shooting on location, and I'm never afraid to get dirty while shooting (sometimes to a fault, once I accidentally lied down in goose poop - but I got the shot!)
